Hi There,

I am really hoping someone can solve this little problem I have.

I have a file server (Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition) setup, it
currently has around 20-30GB of files on it. What I want is to be able to
report on the following from that file server.

Files that haven't been accessed in a certain amount of time.
Amount of data taken up per file type
Amount of data taken up per user

The main aim is to report on users saving music or video files to the file
server. I can't find a good 3rd party tool that can do the job.

I have read about FSRM on Server 2003 R2, but I don't think I am running
that version. How can I check? How do I upgrade? and will FSRM solve my
problem? if not, is there a 3rd party tool that I can use. Ideally I would
like to monitor and report from a central server, not the one that is the
file server, but if that isn't possible anything will do.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

You would see the R2 Logo in the Logonscreen.

FSRM is a bit limited, so i don't think it's worth the upgrade
cost.

I've been working with Treesize Pro and Space Observer in the
Past (http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/), the products work
reasonably well and offer all the options and reports you will
ever need.

Hi,

I have had a look at TreeSize and SpaceObServer. Both seem to do the trick
more or less.

The only thing missing is alerts to when files are created on the server
which are from a banned category.

eg Music category contains .mp3 .wma etc I want to report on music category
and get alerts when files are created from that category.

Hi, there are third party tools which are best for this. I would recommend you to please test Lepide Auditor for File Server. Its an server monitoring tool that will enable you to monitor all of your files and folder.

This tool has the facility to track and monitor all the files and folder in real time and give you a generic reports for the same.

You can download the tool from the given link and hope it works fine for you.

http://www.lepide.com/file-server-audit/

Hope it works and please update back to the community for the same if it helps.

Thanks.
