Can't see/set NTFS security permissions?
(too old to reply)

On a 2003 R2 server, fully patched up, on a few folders I have no
options on the Security tab, simply "The requested security information
is either unavailable or can't be displayed".

I am the administrator, same problem from the console, logged on as
"Administrator".

chkdsk shows nothing at all wrong, xcacls, cacls, setacl etc. all refuse
to touch the folders.

Being server 2003 there is obviously no "simple file sharing" option.

Any ideas please?!

Check Google for the phrase "The requested security information is either
unavailable or can't be displayed". You'll get quite a few hits.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately been there, done that, got the tee
shirt unless I really have missed something.

All those links seem to point towards vista issues such as simple file
sharing/UAC, or something which xcacls and the likes can fix - xcacls,
setacl, everything refuses to touch these files/folders.

I should stress I get the same problem on the server console, Vista is
just my client.

What a coincidence! I found your amazingly helpful solution by searching google. If there was an award for stupidest use of recursion, you would certainly be a front runner.

We running Windows Server 2008 also having this problem.
1 folder unable to delete or rename, on security it said "The requested security information is either unavailable or can't be displayed".
I see people posted on forum from 2006-2007 until now 2010 there is no specific solution to delete it. *sigh*
Most people just give answer on link or asking google it which not giving any fix solution!
