Server 2003 PDC Admin Account
(too old to reply)

I have an idea what I could do but don't want to make a mistake.

I ran the Microsoft 2003 server update, and the automatic installed
NetFrame.
Somehow the PDC became fickled.
After the reboot I couldn’t log in using my usual admin account
BADMIN.
What I mean is that yes, I logged in, but the screen stayed white, and
never loaded. I couldn’t do anything. No taskmanager, nothing. The
system was unresponsive. I did this twice: force shutdown, and logged
in as BADMIN. And the system was unresponsive.
I used my coworkers admin account, and logged in. Thinking that the
BADMIN account was the culprit ; with admin tools I changed BADMIN’s
password.
When I attempted to log in using BADMIN with the new password the
password was not accepted.
Later I tried to log in again and that failed.
I logged in using my coworkers admin account.
I elected after changing the password several times, and that failing
to resolve the conflict, to simply delete the BADMIN account.
Now I had no instances of BADMIN account.
I then created a fresh BADMIN account.
I was able to login. I had a new login screen.
I looked in ‘documents and settings’ . To my surprise I had several
references to BADMIN. There should only be one.
I have BADMIN; BADMIN.SERVER, BADMIN.SERVER.000.

The BADMIN is the one I deleted. However, in this folder is all the
old emails. That is good.
My thinking was to delete BADMIN.SERVER, BADMIN.SERVER.000.
That would leave me with the original folder with all the relevant
information including the emails.
When I attempted a delete on BADMIN.SERVER, BADMIN.SERVER.000 a
message indicated that I can’t do this as it was system material.
Please advise what is the best method to remedy this situation. I
could simply delete the BADMIN account entirely and create a new fresh
admin account “ GOODADMIN” ; and copy into this new account all the
files from BADMIN?

I could do that, however, it would leave unresolved the issue
surrounding BADMIN.

Thanks John Marshall
