I am running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and have an 8TB volume I am trying to
snapshot. I am receiving event ID 5 "The shadow copy of volume G: could not
be created due to insufficent non-paged memory pool for a bitmap structure."
Is there a fix for this?

Dear Customer,

Thank you for posting in newsgroup.

According to the description, you encountered the event ID 5 "The shadow
copy of volume G: could not be created due to insufficient non-paged memory
pool for a bitmap structure." When you try creating snapshot of a 8TB
volume. And what you concerns is if there is an hotfix for this. If I have
any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

Analysis:
========

Yes. There are 2 Volume Shadow Copy Service update packages for Windows
Server 2003, which maybe fix this issue you encountered.

Would you refer to the KB articles and apply the hotfix packages that is
described in the Microsoft KB Base article 833167 and 887827? You may view
and request the hotfix downloads from the following link.

A Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) update package is available for Windows
Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833167

A Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) update-2 package is available
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887827

Please check to see if the hotfixes can be help to fix the issue after you
apply them on the problematic server.

If the issue continues, please create or modify the following registry on
the problematic server according to the following

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory
Management

Value name: PoolUsageMaximum
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Decimal
Value data: 60

Value name: PagedPoolSize
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Hex
Value data: 0xFFFFFFFF

Please note: both applying the hotfix and the configuring the registry need
to reboot the system to take into effect.

Hope it helps.

No luck. I made the registry change and same problem. The dll's are all newer
than what is referenced in the old hotfixes so I did not apply any of the
hotfixes.
I opened a case with Microsoft.
